Born August 25, 1942, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Mr. Contador holds a degree in Economics from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, 1966. He earned his Ph. D. and M.A. degrees at University of Chicago, Department of Economics, MA., in 1973 and 1971, respectively. His teaching and research experience include: 1968-69: Center for Advanced Education (CENDEC), Ministry of Planning, Brazil. 1973-79: Pontificia Universidade Catolica do Rio de Janeiro, Dept. Economics. 1974-79: Getulio Vargas Foundation, Escola Brasileira de Administração Pública, Rio de Janeiro. 1974-79: Research Institute (INPES/IPEA), Ministry of Planning, Project Coordinator (1973-77); Macroeconomics Coordinator (1977-79). 2000: Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, COPPEAD: Associate Professor (1980-94); Full Professor of Economics (1994-2000, retired). He worked as Forecaster for Latin America, Consensus Economics Inc., London, UK. He served as Editor of the journal Pesquisa e Planejamento Economico, INPES/IPEA, 1979-80; Director at Graduate School of Business Administration, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, (1988-89); Head of the Economics and Finance Department, COPPEAD (1994-2000); Director of the Center for Research and Studies in Insurance, COPPEAD (1996-98, 1999-2000); Co-editor of the quarterly bulletin Boletim Indicadores Antecedentes (Bulletin of Leading Indicators), (1991-98). His major areas of research include: Econometric models, strategy planning, simulation systems, insurance market, cost-benefit analysis, business cycles, leading indicators, forecasting. He has published twelve books (the last one in 2000, Projetos Sociais: Avaliação e Prática, São Paulo, Editora Atlas), and more than 250 articles published in Brazil and abroad. Currently he serves as President of SILCON, Estudos Economicos Ltda., S/C, a consulting firm in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He is also member of the Audit Board of Universidade Santa Ursula, Rio de Janeiro, member of the Council of Economy, Politics and Sociology of the Federação de Comércio do Estado de São Paulo, member of the Council of Prospective Forecasters of the Brazilian School of War (Escola Superior de Guerra, Rio de Janeiro), Managing Director of the National School of Insurance Foundation - Funenseg, Rio de Janeiro, Forecaster for Latin America, Consensus Economics Inc., London, UK; Member ofthe Technical Advisory Council of SR Rating/Duff & Phelps, Rio de Janeiro; Member of the Latin-American Shadow Financial Regulatory Committee (LASFRC); and Member of the Board of the National Confederation of Commerce, Rio de Janeiro.
